Thomas Schwan

Thomas Schwan

Thomas Schwan, pianist and composer, was born in 1985 in Milan, Italy. He studied piano privately in Milan, and composition in the conservatories of Milan and Turin. In 2007 he was awarded a full scholarship to study with renowned pianist Joaquin Achúcarro at Southern Methodist University in Dallas (Texas), where he pursued an Artist Certificate and a Master’s degree in piano. Currently he is completing a Master’s degree in composition at the same institution.

Mr. Schwan performed solo recitals in Italy, the United States, Russia, and the Netherlands. The prestigious Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena (Italy) invited him to play a chamber music concert that will be soon released on a live CD. His own compositions have been performed in the concert series of the Dallas Chamber Music Society, and will be featured in the 2012 season of the Dallas-based new music ensemble Voices of Change. He received top prizes in several international piano and composition competitions, along with academic honors from Southern Methodist University (Roy and Sue Johnson Award, Paul Vellucci Award) and from Accademia Chigiana (Honors Diploma, Monte dei Paschi di Siena Prize).

The Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation is proud to support the careers of the Legacy Pianists, who perform in honor of internationally acclaimed pianist Joaquín Achúcarro.
