Born in Almería, Spain, Miguel Ángel R. Laiz graduated from Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid under Maestro Guillermo Gonzalez and holds an Artist Certificate in Piano Performance from Southern Methodist University of Dallas under maestro Joaquín Achúcarro. Graduate studies also includes Masters of research and performing music from University of Granada and University King Juan Carlos in Madrid. From 1994 Mr. Laiz has earned a reputation in the education field, serving as piano teacher at several conservatories in Spain. From 2003 Mr. Laiz holds a position as piano professor at the Royal Conservatory of Granada, gained the tenure position in 2017.
Mr. Laiz is considered a true specialist on Spanish piano music. His broad knowledge of its fundaments and interpretation and his commitment with a truly approach of its technique and soul, leaded him to be invited for lectures and master classes in Spain and abroad, including Sibelius Academy (Finland), Chopin Academy (Poland) or the Czech branch of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) and other institution in Estonia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Costa Rica, etc… He has been in charge of specialized studies on Spanish music at Royal Conservatory of Granada, including researches on Spanish composers like Albeniz, Falla or Barrios.
He is the recipient of several awards in National and International piano competition in Ferrol, Granada, Santiago de Compostela, Siena (Italy) or Dallas (USA).
Mr. Laiz has an intensive concert career performing at some of the main musical venues of Spain as well as in Italy, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, United States, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Costa Rica, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic among others. He has performed both as piano recitalist and as soloist with several orchestras, including Galicia Symphony, Andalousian Youth Orchestra and New Symphony (Bulgaria). He has extensively recorded for TV and radio station nationwide and released two CD recording, performing De Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain, and the piano music of the Andalusian composer Angel Barrios. On December, 2017, a new CD was released including piano music by Isaac Albeniz by Naxos label, as part of the complete piano music recording of the Spanish composer, a project carried out collectively by several specialists. The last volume (nº 9) of this project, also by Miguel Ángel R. Laiz is expected by 2022.
