Hang Li

Hang Li is currently on the piano and chamber music faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Ms. Li is an active piano and chamber music performer and instructor. She has made appearances in concerts extensively throughout China and US. Her performance has been acclaimed as “truly poetic and exhilarating”, “exquisite and sensitive touches”. Ms. Li is also a frequent adjudicator for many piano competitions, including US Open Music Competition, Pacific Music Society Piano Competition, International Young Pianist Competition, and Chopin Music Foundation Competition. She directs Hang Li Piano Studio in Palo Alto, California and runs a music exchange program with overseas young musicians. Ms. Li continues to give master classes and seminars as she has done throughout her career.


At the age of 10, Ms. Li made her solo recital debut at Tianjin Concert hall in Tianjin, China. Her Beijing Concert Hall debut in 1996, performing Chinese and Western contemporary piano works received glowing notices. She premiered Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.2 in China with Shanghai Symphony Orchestra at Shanghai Concert Hall in 1997, with fresh interpretations and impressively mature skills. Before coming to the US, Ms. Li was the youngest lecturer at Central Conservatory of Music, China, and the youngest member in the judging committee of the Piano Performance Certificate administered by Chinese Musician’s Association in Beijing.  Before settling in the bay area, Ms. Li was the faculty member of other music institute in the United States including University of Alabama at Birmingham, Coppell Conservatory, and Yew Chung International School. 


Hang Li received the Master of Music from San Francisco Conservatory of Music; Bachelor of Art from Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China; Artist Certificate from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Her teachers include the eminent pianist Joaquín Achúcarro, Professor Mack McCray, and the most prestigious piano educators in China, Zhou Guangren, Li Qifang and Ling Yuan.


Ms. Li’s knowledge of pedagogy and her ability to “present the complexities of piano performance in a very clear and understandable way” is noteworthy. Her students have gone to some of the nation’s top universities and conservatories including The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, University of Southern California, Berkeley College, University of Chicago, Boston University, MIT, Stanford and Harvard University.  Ms Li’s current and former students are top prize winners of national and international competitions, and has performed in world famous concert halls including Kennedy Center for the Performing Art in Washington DC and Carnegie Hall in New York City.
