Dzmitry Ulasiuk

Dzmitry Ulasiuk

Dzmitry Ulasiuk has emerged on the American scene after winning over audiences in Europe with his ferocious technical skills yet quietly refined ability to coax every detail, every note, and every lyrical phrase out of the keyboard. Soft-spoken and humble, Dzmitry has a zest for life that transfers into musical panache. He embodies the Russian spirit of electrifying performances and evocative interpretations of Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Scriabin in particular, but handles the gracefulness of Scarlatti, Chopin, or Schubert with just as much style and ease.

“There are times when a reviewer simply decides to put pencil and paper away and enjoy the music, and this was one of those times. The remainder of this well-crafted program only confirmed one’s initial impression that Mr. Ulasiuk is an exceptional artist.” – Steinway Artist Dr. Rorianne Schrade, New York Concert Review Online Magazine, about Dzmitry’s Carnegie Hall debut recital September 17, 2018.

He began piano studies professionally at age 16 in Minsk, Belarus. Within one year Dzmitry made his solo debut with an all-Chopin program, and at 18 he appeared internationally in the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, Germany. Since 1998, he has performed recitals in Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, China, Japan, Spain, Costa Rica, and the USA. He performed a debut recital in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2018. Dzmitry has played with orchestras world-wide including the Croatian Radio-Television Symphony, Zagreb Philharmonic, Arthur Rubinstein Symphony, Belarusian Philharmonic, "Classic-Avant-garde" Chamber Orchestra, and the Meadows Symphony in Dallas. His recordings have been broadcast on European radio and television, and on NPR in the United States. He has a new CD of Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev to be released soon by Centaur Records.

Dzmitry has won or placed in 15 international piano competitions, winning the latest which had nearly 2,000 contestants from 88 different countries: the 2018 Kaleidoscope International Music Competition in Los Angeles, California. Other notables are: 2017 Grand Prize Winner, 25th Fryderyck Chopin International Piano Competition (Corpus Christi, TX); First Prize, 2007 Svetislav Stancic International Piano Competition; First Prize, 2000 National Piano Competition, Belarus; Second Prize, 2011 Chopin International Piano Competition, USA; Third Prize, 2005 International Karol Szymanowski Piano Competition, Poland.

Dzmitry earned several performance degrees from the Belarus State Academy of Music. In 2010, he received the Lili Kraus Scholarship to study with Dr. Tamás Ungár in the Artist Diploma program at Texas Christian University. In 2016 he received the Performers Diploma from the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University, where he studied with Professor Joaquín Achúcarro and was named a Legacy Artist of the Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation. He is currently a Doctoral candidate of Dr. Pamela Mia Paul at the University of North Texas, and holds a teaching fellowship.

The Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation is proud to support the careers of the Legacy Pianists, who perform in honor of internationally acclaimed pianist Joaquín Achúcarro.
