Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1987, Darío Martín earned his Bachelor of Music at the Institutó Superior de Arte in Havana, obtaining his Golden Diploma in 2011. He is currently pursuing a Performer’s Diploma in Piano Performance under the guidance of Maestro Joaquín Achúcarro at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Darío has won first prizes in many national and international piano competitions in Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico and the U.S. The most recent awards include First Prize at the José Jacinto Cuevas International Piano Competition hosted by Yamaha Piano held in Mexico, and the Second Prize in the Coltman Chamber Music Competition in Austin, Texas.
Martín has given solo and chamber music recitals in Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, England, Germany and the U.S. He has played as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, Havana Chamber Orchestra and Yucatan Symphony Orchestra, among others. He has played in many music festivals in Europe and Latin America.
His first CD was launched on 2011 and received the Cubadisco Award to the Best Classical Solo Album.
