Bernardino Costa González

Born and raised in Murcia, Spain, Bernardino Costa did not begin playing the piano until he was eleven. At sixteen, he had already graduated with honors from the Superior Conservatory of Murcia. One year later, he continued his academic and personal journey in the United States where he studied at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. It was in this prestigious institution where he received an Artist Certificate Diploma and enrolled in the Master in Piano Performance Degree under the renowned pianist Joaquín Achúcarro thanks to numerous scholarships from Séneca’s Foundation (Murcia) and the Joel Estes Tate Scholarships.

In 2001, Bernardino Costa won first prize at the “Meadows Concerto Competition” in Dallas. Also, in 2002, he was elected by the faculty to receive the Harold von Mickwitz Prize. Costa has given recitals in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, France, England, Poland, United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil, Arab Emirates, and Japan. He has also made multiple appearances at festivals such as the Santander Festival, SAM Festival, Juventus Musicals Torroella de Montgrí, Summer Music Festival in Casa Batlló, and the Music Festival Vancouver. Additionally, he has been invited to perform in master classes throughout the world from eminent figures such as Guillermo González, Menahem Pressler, Abbey Simon, Andrew Litton, John Perry, György Sándor, Leon Fleisher, Murray Perahia, Alexei Sultanov, Warren Jones, Alessio Bax, Alfred Mouledous, Luis de Moura Castro, Horacio Gutiérrez, Jorge Luís Prats, Jorge Federico Osorio, and Emanuel Ax.

He participated in the “Goyescas’ Evening” concert series which took place during the inauguration event of Goya’s Exposition sponsored by Fundación Joaquín Achucarro in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy as part of the “Spain Arts & Culture”, and the Meadows Museum in the presence of the famous architect Santiago Calatrava and the Spanish monarchs.

Bernardino is currently professor at the Superior Conservatory of Music Manuel Massotti Little in Murcia, Spain and has been invited throughout Spain, France, Poland, Mexico, Peru, and United States to give master classes.

The Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation is proud to support the careers of the Legacy Pianists, who perform in honor of internationally acclaimed pianist Joaquín Achúcarro.
