Birthday Tour

The Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation is delighted to honor the 80th birthday of Maestro Achúcarro with a year-long international Birthday Series performed by the Maestro’s disciples.   Since its inception five years ago, the Foundation has organized performances throughout the United States and internationally.  In May of 2012, the Foundation was inaugurated in Maestro Achúcarro’s home country of Spain where an additional three performances are planned in 2013 as part of the Birthday Series.


November 2012 – Bravissimo Festival

Daniel del Pino performed with the Bravissimo Festival on November 8 in Guatemala City and November 10 in Antigua

 

November 15th, 2012 – 7:00 PM, Latino Cultural Center, Dallas
The Birthday Series was inaugurated on November 15, 2012 at the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas, Texas beginning with a birthday celebration at 7:00pm, followed by a performance at 8:00pm. The solo performances featured four of Maestro Achúcarro’s current Latino students hailing from Colombia and Mexico. The concert was free and open to the public.

The pianists were:

  • Edmundo González Alvarado (Mexico)
  • José Luis Correa (Colombia)
  • Astrid Morales (Mexico)
  • Juan S. Moreno (Colombia)

 

December 7th, 2012 – 7:00PM, Insituto Cultural de Mexico, San Antonio

The Birthday Series continued with a performance by legacy pianist Marta Espinós.  This performance was co-presented by Casa de España of San Antonio. Support was provided by the Embassy of Spain as part of their Spain Arts & Culture program, as well as the Consulate General of Spain in Houston. This concert was free and open to the public.

 

December 12, 2012 – 8:00pm, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Marta Espinós performed at the VIP reception during the opening of the exhibition Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado.  Marta’s performance was sponsored by the Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain as part of their Spain Arts & Culture program, as well as the Consulate General of Spain in Houston.

 

April 11, 2013 – Loyola University New Orleans

Marta Espinós will lead a master class for music students at the University.

 

April 12, 2013 – 5:30pm-8:00pm, New Orleans Museum of Art

Marta Espinós will perform the program Olé! Spanish Music at the World’s Fairs for the Museum’s “Friday Nights at NOMA.”  Marta’s performance is sponsored by the Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation in collaboration with the Consul General of Spain in Houston, as well as the Embassy of Spain as part of their Spain Arts & Culture program.

 

April 16, 2013 – Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Dallas

Marta Espinós will lead a master class for students studying piano performance.

 

April 18, 2013 – 6:00pm, Instituto Cervantes of Chicago

Marta Espinós will perform Ole! Spanish Music at the World’s Fairs at the Cervantes Institute.  The evening will begin at 6:00pm with a preview of the Xavier Nuez exhibition followed by Marta’s 7:00pm performance.  Marta’s performance is sponsored by the Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain as part of their Spain Arts & Culture program.

 

April 25, 2013 -Bilbao, Spain

A performance by Lucille Chung will be in collaboration with the BBVA Foundation.

 

April 27, 2013 – Barcelona, Spain

A performance by Lucille Chung will be in collaboration with the BBVA Foundation.

 

April 29, 2013 – Madrid, Spain

A performance by Lucille Chung will be in collaboration with the BBVA Foundation.
